ABOUT ME

ME1.jpg

Summing up an entire person in a handful of words is an impossible task, but I’ll try to provide you a peek!

My name is Alexis Aulepp, and I’m a junior, a COMM major, a book-lover, a night owl, a people pleaser, a “mom friend,” and a writer. Some of my interests include poetry, photography, dad jokes, my faith, good food, cute dogs, and random acts of kindness.

My favorite place to be is inside my own head, and my least favorite place to be is inside my own head (or the gym – that place is a nightmare). I write (in part) because I like to spend a lot of time in my favorite place. I keep writing (in part) because my least favorite place gets dark sometimes, and written words often provide the illumination I need.

AUTHOR BIO

Alexis Aulepp grew up in Northville, MI, with her mother, father, and younger brother, as well as their Yellow English Labrador Retriever, Cody. She began writing at a young age, composing her own “books” by 1stGrade (or before). Her first published work was a short poem that was published in the 2007 National Anthology of Poetry by Young Americanswhen she was in 3rdGrade. Since then, her work has been published in several literary magazines, journals, and anthologies, and she hopes it will be published many more places in the future.

Ms. Aulepp’s love for writing grew from a mutual love of reading and creating. While she has been enjoying both from a young age, her first “aha” moment of wanting to be a writer can be traced back to 5thGrade reading time. During one of these daily reading periods, she haphazardly decided to start the Harry Potter series with the third book (under what would later be deemed the ludicrous assumption that it was fine because she had seen the first two movies), and immediately fell deeply in love with the power of the written word.

As of the present day, Ms. Aulepp has planned and/or begun approximately eight books (two related trilogies, the first book of an unrelated series, and one stand-alone-novel [which is the novel featured on this website: It’s Pronounced “Pegasus”]). She continues to write both poetry and fiction – as well as numerous pieces of other genres, such as journal entry or blog – and hopes that life both in and beyond graduation from college will provide many opportunities to express herself through the written word.

ABOUT THIS WEBSITE

This website is a digital portfolio of some of the work I've been creating in Writing 220, the Gateway class to the Sweetland Minor in Writing program at the University of Michigan.

This portfolio features some of my writing assignments (such as "Why I Write," "In-Class Writings," etc.), as well as in-depth looks at the biggest projects I was asked to tackle this semester: the three "Experiments."

Before I started the Experiments, I was asked to pick an "origin piece," which was the document that would inspire my three Experiments. You can read about my origin piece under the "Experiments" tab. With my origin piece chosen, I then re-interpreted that piece or its subject matter using different genres of writing and/or mediums of communication.

For each Experiment, I was asked to make a proposal of the project, do research, provide a detailed outline of the entire project (were I to complete it), provide only a small "sample" of the unfinished project, and then do a reflection on the assignment. You can find these pieces of writing under each of the "Experiment #" tabs under "Experiments."

For my final project, I was asked to then take one of my three Experiments and finish it. In other words, take the sample I had started and finish the rest of what the sketch had talked about. For my final project, I chose to "fully realize" my Experiment 3. You can read about this under the "Final Project" tab under "Experiments."

Other than that, I hope this page is pretty navigable. You will notice that on certain pages (like the Experiments pages) I provided additional directions for ease of viewing. Please utilize them if you need to, and thank you for taking the time to look at my E-Portfolio!
